The Glory that was Greece

We were tasked by our teacher to make an essay. Since i wanna preserve these memories and i wanna erase these files in my computer. Deadline: September 10, 2007
"The Glory that was Greece"

Greece was a very popular and glorious country. If I was ever asked to name a country belonging in the continent of Europe, I would definitely answer Greece. It’s a very know country nowadays but a very splendid country such as Greece but there is no existing country that doesn’t experience problems. Behind the glory of Greece and their gods, there are also different events that triggered to strengthen their relationship with one another.

For the past 2 weeks, we’ve been tackling Greece. It has been one of the most interesting topics in World History and it learning the history of other countries not belonging to our continent has been surprisingly fun and incredibly interesting. Going into the details of the said lesson would take up much time and chalk. Also, it would be so hard for us to memorize all of the unique terms and the sequence of events. I lesson was very productive for not only did my interest in the field of world history grew but also did my passion for studies. Every time the subject for the day is social studies, I get very thrilled and excited because I really do enjoy the interesting and quite disgusting and hilarious story about Greeks and their myths. They have a completely different culture compared to our Filipinos especially since they have pagan gods but the fact that it is in contrast with what I, and all of my classmates already knew so it actually makes us more eager to know about it. This would lead to better grades because whenever a person is happy and passionate in learning, it will eventually lead to success.

One of our first topics was, of course, the location of Greece and its history. After that, we took up the 3 battles regarding 2 completely different cities: Athens and Spartans. I really loved this topic especially learning about how these two completely different cities helped each other during in times of need, specifically the 3 battles/wars. We all know what happened and all of us were deeply impressed that how could people who are so contrast with each other help one another in a large way and even die for each other. It just goes to show that you and other members of your country are a member of one humongous ohana. Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. The Spartans and the Athenians really exemplified the meaning of true love of family and giving importance and sacrifice to each individual. Love is sacrifice.

Our most recent topic that I became so interested in was the Greek Mythology. I mean those are their gods but it seems that they’re mere mortals to me. I mean, the only difference is that they are immortals. They’re concepts of gods totally contradicts what our faith teaches us. And, what’s more hilarious is that they’re not holy and they’re even worst than people. Imagine a god corrupting many other gods. Also, gods aren’t actually the type of immortals who are fighting against each other. The fact that Greeks worship and idolize immortals like those was really surprising.

Bottom-line is that everything that we took up is actually the factors that really shaped Greece to what it is now. It is a glorious country at present and has many people studying its history. Basically, they play an important role in history and make the subject very interesting.
